The Witch’s Diner is made by the witch Hee-ra (Song Ji-hyo), business partner Jin (Nam Ji-hyun), and part-timer Gil-yong (Chae Jong-hyeop) with guests full of stories at the witch restaurant selling wishes with a price. It’s a fantasy drama.
Producer So Jae-hyun said, “The concept is a fantasy and cruel fairy tale. It is a drama like a comprehensive gift set that contains romance, horror, emotion, and even a human story.” He said, “I fell in love with the original work and fell in love with the content and wanted to show it to the world. I got to work on it,” he explained.
Song Ji-hyo and Nam Ji-hyun worked together for ‘The Witch’s Diner’. Song Ji-hyo takes on the role of ‘Hee-ra’, a witch who makes soul food with masters. Nam Ji-hyun takes on the role of ‘Jin’, a business partner who runs a restaurant with ‘Hee-ra’.
egarding the casting of Song Ji-hyo and Nam Ji-hyun, PD Jae-hyun said, “I thought that I would like to work with Song Ji-hyo once, but it is an honor to be with him. I thought it would suit the role of a witch well, so I suggested it, but he gladly allowed it. Nam Ji-hyun knew well. It’s difficult. Because Nam Ji-hyun is so good at acting, I asked for it, and we got to do it together.”
Song Ji-hyo said, “I wanted to do a drama with an original work. At the time, I was obsessed with fantasy, but after seeing the script, I thought I had to do it. I fell in love with the script and decided to do it together.”
About taking on the witch character, Song Ji-hyo explained, “I wanted to try a challenge rather than a transformation. I wanted to test how well it fits. If the staff did the appearance, I wanted to look like a character named Hee-ra.”
Nam Ji-hyun said, “When I saw the script, I thought it was a human drama. It was cool in terms of making a wish in return. That’s why we got to do it together.”
Then, Nam Ji-hyun said, “It’s the character with the most emotional change in the work.” He added, “I think I’m shooting well because I’m having so much fun filming with my colleagues.”
